From the 1st to the 22nd of February, Alcalal\u00ed will celebrate the 10th edition of \u201cFeslal\u00ed. February is Alcalal\u00ed\u201d, a well-established event that invites visitors to discover the municipality through its landscape, agriculture, culture, and people. Ten years after its inception, \u201cFeslal\u00ed\u201d begins a new chapter, remaining true to its essence while adapting to the reality of the territory and the challenges of the present.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The origins of Feslal\u00ed<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>

Since its beginnings, \u201cFeslal\u00ed\u201d has been closely linked to almond trees and their blossom\u2014a landscape that for decades defined the image of Alcalal\u00ed and made the month of February a special time for residents and visitors alike. The festival was born with a clear objective: to position the Alcalal\u00ed almond as a local product with high added value, reactivate agricultural activity, boost the local economy, and attract inland tourism based on the municipality\u2019s agricultural identity.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

However, the emergence of \u201cXylella fastidiosa\u201d and the containment policies applied, which led to the mass uprooting of almond trees, have profoundly transformed the landscape and the productive base that sustained the festival. Given this reality, continuing to look to the past no longer made sense. It was necessary to rethink \u201cFeslal\u00ed\u201d from the perspective of the land and for the sake of the future.

Alcalal\u00ed preserves a valuable agricultural and environmental heritage, with centuries-old carob trees, rain-fed lands adapted to the Mediterranean climate, and traditional knowledge that forms part of the municipality\u2019s collective memory. In recent years, the carob bean has also seen an economic and strategic revaluation, driven by its excellent adaptation to drought, low maintenance costs, and the growing market interest in natural and sustainable products.<\/p>\n

For this reason, Alcalal\u00ed Town Council has worked throughout this year on a strategy for the recovery and commercial viability of carob, resulting in a technical and participatory study. This document confirms that the carob is not only a crop central to the local identity but also a real opportunity to diversify the local economy, recover abandoned land, and move towards a more resilient and sustainable agricultural model.<\/p>\n

The 10th edition of \u201cFeslal\u00ed. February is Alcalal\u00ed\u201d thus becomes a privileged showcase to start this new journey, placing the carob at the centre of the narrative and connecting agriculture, culture, gastronomy, landscape, and tourism.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
